super-big zoolander fashion moment for me

collection II

finally!
senior collection II

this is supposed to kind of culminate my experiences at college, and be a representation of what i have learned, what i can do, who i am going to be as a designer.
i am actually REALLY proud of it, but i dont really feel all of the culmination business.
i dont really think that any one project should serve as a representation of a more extended period. this collection, to me, is more of a representation of who i am right now.
i wouldlike this to serve as a reference, and a time capsule of how i view design right now. i would like to go back, months, years, or decades frm now, and look at who i was and how i have changed.
if i tried to pack everything that i learned while i was in college into one project, it would be a mess. instead i just did whatever i wanted, i let my inhibitions go, and i made the collection that i wanted to make

Citypaper Style Issue

here is the shot for the citypaper style issue that i worked on in march. The subject is nichole canuso, a dancer who owns her own dance company and is what i like to call "philly phamous"
the feature was about her, but i was asked to come in and style her according to what i thought would be popular for spring etc. of course the shoes were from BUS STOP, but the top was mine, and the amazing suedue skirt was nicholes. i really wish i could have taken that home with me :)
we did alot more shots than this, and i kind wonder why they chose this one, because she was doing crazier stuff than a little phone dialing.

look 2

this skirt is made out of a metallic blue jacquard fabric and the top is black jersey.

in crit, jay recommended doing layered tanks out of many different kinds of fabrics, but that is something i wouldn't typically do. they are constantly trying to push us out of our comfort zones and make us do things that we hadn't thought.

senior collection II

my second collection is based on a series of images from a children's book. The book tells the story of jonah, accompanied by beautiful, dramatic illustrations by artist niko chocheli.

still in its premliminary stages, only one garment has been completed in finished goods (see color sketch).

senior collection I

designed a collection based on japanese sensibilities towards dressing, fused with a love for edwardian fashion and the modern girl.
wanted to make garments that were wearable, while remaining unique and somewhat editorial.

executed the first three garments, sewn in finished goods represented on fabric board

after completing this collection, my views on it had changed a great deal since the beginning. the collection was less comprehensive then i had hoped.
the clothing seems a bit more esoteric than was planned, and not really cohesive as a whole.
for collection II, i want to take what i did right and what i did wrong and apply it. less fussiness with draping and shapes, which i now see as kind of restricting. more of what makes sense, and less of what seems gratuitous, added-on.
